Abstract

The increasing cost of living in Australia has compelled many retirees to seek more affordable and fulfilling retirement options abroad. Southeast Asia, with its lower cost of living, diverse cultures, and favorable climates, has emerged as a popular destination for these Australian senior nomads. This case study explores the motivations, challenges, and opportunities associated with this growing trend.

Key findings reveal that Australian retirees are drawn to Southeast Asia due to its lower cost of living, accessible healthcare, and vibrant cultures. New businesses are emerging to cater to the specific needs of this demographic,  such as financial advisory services, specialized insurance products, and retirement communities. However, challenges such as cultural differences, language barriers, and healthcare accessibility need to be carefully considered.

By analyzing the factors influencing this trend and examining the potential implications for both Australia and Southeast Asia, this case study provides insights into the evolving landscape of international retirement.
