Abstract

TikTok, a globally popular short-form video platform, finds itself caught in the crossfire of escalating US-China tensions. Its Chinese ownership by ByteDance raises significant national security concerns in the US, leading the government to mandate a sale of TikTok to a US-approved buyer.

The study examines the massive shift between globalization and deglobalization, highlighting the impact of geopolitical tensions on global businesses. TikTok's rapid ascent is attributed to its engaging user interface and advanced recommendation algorithms. However, its Chinese ownership raises concerns about data privacy and potential Chinese government influence.

The case underscores the challenges faced by multinational enterprises navigating the complexities of a deglobalizing world. The future of TikTok hangs in the balance, with significant implications for both the company and its global user base.
