Abstract

The case study, "TikTok - Inspiring Creativity and Bringing Joy to All?", examines TikTok's meteoric rise as a global social media platform, emphasizing its algorithm-driven recommendation system and unique short-form video format. TikTok, owned by ByteDance, has revolutionized user engagement through its "For You" page, which personalizes content based on user behavior, fostering creativity and making content creation accessible. TikTok’s business model has solidified it as a dominant player in the social media industry, driving high levels of user engagement and revenue through advertising, in-app purchases, and e-commerce integrations.

The study also explores the platform's role in shaping users' social identities and fostering global communities. TikTok has empowered users, particularly younger audiences, to express themselves creatively while connecting with diverse cultures. However, the case highlights critical ethical concerns, including the platform's advertising practices targeting minors, susceptibility to misinformation, and the psychological impact of content on users.
