Abstract

RE:GEN is a Malaysian community-driven ESG platform initiated by Ricky Wong that seeks to connect environmental regeneration, emotional well-being, community participation, and measurable social impact. Through a combination of urban land transformation projects, food-waste regeneration, emotional art experiences, volunteer engagement, and digital participation tools, RE:GEN aims to create a new model of community-centered sustainability.

This case study examines how RE:GEN integrates environmental action, mental well-being, community engagement, and ESG reporting into a multi-stakeholder ecosystem involving corporations, universities, shopping malls, NGOs, volunteers, and local communities. Central to the initiative is the RE:GEN Urban Emotional Experience, a public engagement platform designed to translate sustainability issues into personal reflection and action, supported by digital participation tools such as MyComm and the Time Bank system.

The case explores critical challenges in scaling a purpose-driven platform, including ESG measurement, impact verification, stakeholder governance, data privacy, AI-enabled engagement, volunteer motivation, and long-term financial sustainability.
