Abstract

Oriental Kopi has emerged as one of Malaysia’s fastest-growing halal kopitiam chains, blending traditional Hainanese culinary heritage with modern business strategies. Founded in 2020, the company quickly expanded from a single outlet in Johor to a network of 20 cafés across Malaysia and one in Singapore by 2025. Following its IPO in January 2025, which raised approximately US$43.38 million, the company transitioned into a profitable business generating over US$65 million in revenue and US$10 million in net profit by 2024.

The case study employs financial analysis tools in conjunction with market valuation metrics to assess the company’s investment potential and the sustainability of its growth. Designed as an applied finance and strategy case, it encourages learners to evaluate critically Oriental Kopi’s financial health, growth prospects, and valuation to determine whether it presents a sound investment opportunity in Malaysia’s evolving coffee market.
