Abstract
Sushi King transformed Japanese dining in Malaysia by introducing affordable, halal-certified conveyor-belt sushi while continuously adapting its business model to changing consumer preferences. After more than three decades of growth, the company sought new channels for sustainable expansion beyond its traditional dine-in operations.
This case study examines Sushi King’s entrepreneurial approach to strategic innovation through the launch of its “Home Meal” initiative, a halal-certified bento meal service designed to meet the rising demand for convenient, affordable, and high-quality ready-to-eat meals while exploring the strategic and operational challenges associated with scaling the business. The case study encourages learners to evaluate how Sushi King should leverage the Home Meal initiative as a platform for future growth while continuing to strengthen its core restaurant business.
